We Got The Taste was a Pepsi commercial in 1987, while Pepsi was the sponsor for Tina’s Break Every Rule Tour. The advertising was recorded solo and as a duet together with the following artists: The Thai singer and actress Pu Anchalle Jongkadeekij, the Puerto Rican singer Wilkins, the Philippine singer Gino Padilla, the Brazilian singer and actor Evandro Mesquita and the Mexican singer Emmanuel. The solo version was produced as a live and studio version, with the live version released on the Break Every Rule home video.
Pepsi Cola issued also a special promotional edition of the album Break Every Rule in Europe with a very nice gatefold cover, featuring pictures from the We Got The Taste commercial and infos about the promotion. Later that year, Tina teamed up with David Bowie in the commercial Creation, including a short version of the song „Modern Love“.
Pepsi was already the sponsor of Tina’s Private Dancer Tour in 1985 and they also promoted her Foreign Affair Tour in 1990 with several clips including her recent hit The Best. Also in 1990, the duet It Takes Two with Rod Stewart was used for a Pepsi commercial and Tina’s first greatest hits compilation Simply The Best was promoted with a major advertising campaign.
„I remember making a commercial for Pepsi-Cola with Tina 1986 in Los Angeles. She turned up absolutely on time. She had to do, I think, fifteen different versions of that bloody film, duetting with different persons from God knows where. They were all late and hungover and this, that, and the other. Tina walked in and said, ‘Tell me where to stand, tell me what to do, and I’ll do it. I trust you.’ That commercial was in the biggest film studio you’ve ever seen in your life. She wasn’t expecting that. She was expecting to sit on a stool and talk to some local singer. She had just a great energy to overcome it.“ — David Mallet
