In commemoration of the unprecedented music career and journey of Tina Turner and the 40th anniversary of her eponymous hit What’s Love Got To Do With It, the Tina Turner Barbie® doll wears a black mini dress paired with a denim jacket, sheer black tights and black heels, inspired by the iconic outfit Tina wore in the music video for her chart-topping single.
Tina Turner is the fifth artist to be inducted into Mattel’s Barbie® Signature Music Series, created by Bill Greening, who worked directly with Tina:
“She was very involved in the design process and the ‘What’s Love’ look was the choice right from the start. The most challenging aspect of the doll’s creation, and the most impressive result, is the replication of Tina’s signature hairstyle. We used a lot of screen grabs from the music video to see the hair at all angles. The hair team did lots of trials to get the style and color just right. Lots of teasing and hairspray was involved! I think this doll pays a great tribute to such an iconic performer.”
