The Gospel According To Ike And Tina remains as one of Ike & Tina's most obscure and underrated album and reflect one of the more unusual steps the couple took in their recording career. Musically, it features new arrangements of gospel standards with heavy use of Ike’s new synthesizers. The lead vocals are from Ike Turner, Tina Turner and from both together. The album received a Grammy nomination in 1975 and was reissued on compact disc on the double CD Sweet Rhode Island Red / The Gospel According To Ike & Tina.

In the beginning there was an idea. Ike & Tina Turner wanted to re-examine their gospel roots in the light of their explosive pop/soul sound. In the middle there was a recording session. And the results were so uplifting and exciting, that Ike & Tina went ahead and recorded all their favorite gospel songs. In the end there is „The Gospel According to Ike & Tina“. A new album from Ike & Tina Turner on United Artists Records & Tapes. Been to church lately?
The religious background that's so often a part of the music of today's biggest stars emerges here on Ike and Tina's latest UA LP, a collection of gospel oriented material that sparkles with deep feeling and righteousness. "Father Alone" is a marvelous spiritual sung by Ike and each cut builds the fervor initiated by this talented team, culminating in the classic "When The Saints Go Marching In." This LP should be a big seller among the Turners' fans as well as an insight into their direction.
