What Can It Be features two non album tracks with lead vocals by Jackie Brenston feat. Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm. Both sides were recorded on September 13, 1956 in Cincinnati. Luther Ingram, the composer of the b-side track was a member of The Gardenias vocal group. This single is one of a dozen Federal releases by Ike Turner featuring various vocalists, all from Cincinnati sessions between February 1956 and April 1957 and was reviewed in Billboard magazine in it’s issue from November 03, 1956. Both songs were reissued in 1991 on the sampler Trailblazer.
