Tina Turner - Kennedy Center Honors - Award

Tony Bennett / Suzanne Farell / Julie Harris / Robert Redford / Tina Turner / President George W. Bush

The Kennedy Center Honors have been presented annually since 1977 on the first weekend of December by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., to various artists who have made an outstanding contribution to American culture through their lifetime achievements. In 2005, the award was presented by the president of the United States, George W. Bush to Tina Turner, alongside with Tony Bennett, Suzanne Farrell, Julie Harris and Robert Redford.

After a very personal speech from Tina’s friend Oprah Winfrey, three of Tina’s biggest hits were performed live on stage from Al Green with Let’s Stay Together, Queen Latifah with What’s Love Got To Do With It and Beyoncé with Proud Mary. Beyoncé also paid tribute to the two Tina’s in her life - her mother and Tina Turner. Her performance led to Tina performing with Beyoncé at the 50th Grammy Awards three years later.

The performance of Proud Mary from Beyoncé was released on the home video Beyoncé (The Ultimate Performer) in 2010.
