Soul The Hits is the first album from The Ikettes, featuring almost previously released singles and b-sides. The tracklist on the front and back cover is incorrect, only the tracks on the labels are correct. The album was originally released in 1966 from Modern Records and was re-issued on United with a different cover. The compact disc from 2007 features lots of more singles and material issued by some group members as solo artists. The Ikettes on the cover picture are Jessie Smith, Robbie Montgomery and Venetta Fields.

Camel Walk is a very catchy dance song , featuring Ike’s stinging guitar break. The single version is different than on the album, where an alternative, faster, take 4 was used. Another different version was also released in 1974 on the album (G)Old & New. The Ikettes promoted the song at the TV-Show Shindig in 1965.

Peaches 'N' Cream was after I’m Blue the second successful solo single from The Ikettes. A different version is also available on their second longplayer (G)Old & New from 1974. The Ikettes promoted the song at several TV-Shows in America and Europe like Hollywood A Go-Go and Shindig. The single was re-issued under the „Modern Oldies“ series and again in 1973, after the release of the album Peaches. The previously unreleased b-side track was issued on the sampler Fine, Fine, Fine.

(He’s Gonna Be) Fine, Fine, Fine features lead vocals by Venetta Fields, Jessie Smith and Robbie Montgomery, but the danceable song failed to follow the success of it’s predecessor. The version on the album is titled „He’s Gonna Be Fine,“ but minus the horn section overdub from the single. The b-side track was re-issued on the sampler Can't Sit Down... 'Cos It Feels So Good. In England, an additional extended play single was released with four tracks.
Release: May 1965
Label: Modern (USA) / Stateside, EMI (UK)

I’m So Thankful with lead vocals from Jessie Smith and background vocals by Robbie Montgomery and Vanetta Fields was a R&B success, but no pop crossover. The Ikettes promoted the single with appearances at some TV-Shows like Shindig, Hullahalloo and Shebang. The version on the album is a different mix with a few extra backing vocals. The b-side track is a funked up cover of an old Jimmy Beasley hit from 1956. The single was re-issued under the „Modern Oldies“ series.

Label: Modern (USA) / Polydor (Europe) / Modern Oldies (Reissue)

(Never More) Lonely For You was released after Robbie Montgomery, Venetta Fields and Jessie Smith left the Revue and soon formed the Mirettes. The flip side features a cover from The Jaynetts and was also a single in some European countries.

Not That I Recall is an Ike Turner composition and was the sixth and last single on Modern. The b-side track is a cover of the Crystals monster smash, written by Phil Spector. Both tracks were reissued on the sampler Can't Sit Down... 'Cos It Feels So Good.
