Live! The Ike & Tina Turner Show was shortly released after the album Revue Live from Kent Records. Warner Bros. Records acquired the rights to this similar recording by the label-hopping duo and quickly countered with this album, which reached the top ten of the R&B charts in February 1965, making it the very first album for Ike & Tina on the American charts. The recording is very raw with vocal performances from Tina, The Ikettes and the Kings of Rhythm. It was recorded live in Texas at the Skyliner Ballroom in Fort Worth and the Lovall's Ballroom in Dallas. The UK release replaced the track „Down In The Valley“ with the song Tell Her I’m Not Home, which was a single the same year. The album was re-issued under the different titles On Stage in England and Something Got A Hold On Me in America and selected tracks were issued in 1969 on the sampler Ike & Tina Turner’s Greatest Hits.

Something's Got A Hold Of Me was originally recorded from Etta James in 1962. Ike & Tina performed the song live in their early concerts, but a studio version was first released after their separation on some rarities sampler. The single was only released in Norway in 1966. A remixed version of the title track is available on the digital album Reworked Versions.
I Can’t Sop Loving You is a rare Yugoslavian single from 1973. Another live version is also available on the album Festival of Live Performances from 1970. Both tracks are cover songs: The title track was originally released from Don Gibson in 1957 and the b-side from Etta James in 1961.
Tell Her I’m Not Home was originally released from Chuck Jackson in 1963 as „Tell Him I'm Not Home.“ Ike & Tina flipped it to be from a female perspective. After the success with River Deep - Mountain High, it was released in England, where it charted at #48.
