Goodbye So Long was first released 1965 in America. This different version was taken from the album Workin Together, released in France after Ike & Tina's live performance in the movie Taking Off in 1971. The cover picture was photographed at Ike & Tina’s concert at the Olympia in Paris in January.

Taking Off is a comedy movie, including a short cameo appearance from Ike & Tina Turner (with the Ikettes Ester Jones, Vera Hamilton and Jean Brown) performing the song Goodbye So Long, while the parents watching their concert. The story is about a group of parents whose children have run away from home and the parents take the opportunity to rediscover their youth. The film received a Golden Palm award in Cannes.
