Ike & Tina Turner - Golden Empire - Album

Golden Empire

Album / Singles (1985)

Golden Empire is a collection of rock and r&b standards like Faye Adams Shake A Hand, contemporary tunes including Stevie Wonders Living For The City and funky, witty Ike Turner originals. Beside previously released songs, it features also a lot of unreleased material, available for the first time on this two record set. All tracks are re-mastered and remixed by Striped Horse Records chief Carlo Nasi and Philadelphia International veteran engineer Don Murray. Over the years, a total of four singles were released. A selection of twelve songs was also released under the different title Get It On and all songs have been reissued on the two record set The Collection in 1987. Some of the previously unreleased songs can be found on an early demo record from 1976, maybe for a planned album which never materialised because of the split of the duo.

Singles

Living For The City is a song from Stevie Wonder, originally released in 1973. Ike & Tina covered it one year later for their album Sweet Rhode Island Red and released a remixed version in 1985 as the first single. The title track Golden Empire is a previously unreleased song and was officially released only in Italy in 1986, but was also a promotional record in America. Multimix is a Spanish maxi single with an over twenty minutes long megamix from the album tracks on both sides. Shake A Hand is a cover song, first released from Faye Adams in 1953. Ike & Tina’s version stayed unreleased and was a single only in France in 1986. Raise Your Hand (U Got To) is a cover song, originally issued from Eddie Floyd in 1967. Ike & Tina Turner’s version was remixed by many different DJ’s, released as a single in 2005. Some versions are introduced by a spoken intro from Dr. K.
