Love Explosion is Tina's second solo album after she left Ike Turner and is much more disco influenced than it’s predecessor. It was recorded in England after her second Hammersmith show in February as part of her ongoing European tour. The single Music Keeps Me Dancin' is the only song Tina performed live in her concerts, available on the Wild Lady of Rock home video from 1979. The album was not released in North America and because neither the album nor the singles charted, Tina lost her recording contract over there, so this is the last studio album until Private Dancer in 1984.

Music Keeps Me Dancin’ was the first and only single in Europe and the only song which Tina performed live in her concerts. The title track Love Explosion was written by Tina's former bandleader Lenny Macaluso and was an Australian single to promote her Australian tour. Backstabbers was a promotional single in England to promote the album but was not released as a regular single.
